Maheras
The Great Knife

Maheras is a show featuring two clown-puppeteers, a live musician, and a puppet, which delves into our relationship with Death and the Solitude caused by the "Unspoken" in our relationships. If we fear death, what do we do with the Time we have left to live? These are the themes we explore through the preparation of an embalmed body and through poetry and tenderness.

“Death... which frightens us,
Love... which makes our hearts beat,
Solitude... our inner self, a true storm,
And Time just there... it repeats, it repeats, and it repeats”

About The Show

Maheras is a funeral agency passed down from mother to daughter across three generations, now inhabited by three undertakers who have ceased to communicate, lost in their own silent solitudes.
Day after day, they move through their routines, disconnected from each other, with time slipping quickly by, unaltered by their stasis.
Today, the doors of Maheras are thrown open to the public. In the theater’s foyer, an Exhibition-Cabinet of Curiosities showcases several funeral rituals drawn from cultures around the globe.
The characters invite spectators to envision their future funeral rites from the diverse options presented by the agency, urging them to make their decisions today. Contracts are handed out to everyone, ready for signing with a haunting reminder:
“Do not wait for tomorrow; it will be too late.”

Then, the audience is ushered into the main theater hall, where they will witness the embalming of Michel Dupont. As the line between the living and the dead blurs, the thanatopractors become ensnared in their own clumsy errors, and the situation swiftly spirals into disaster!
